HELLO NOVEMBER

When Indian Summer ends, you should head for sunnier destinations. Suitably, we’reheading to the Sunshine State of Florida at the beginning of November. This time, ouropponent is the Tampa Bay Lightning. The name should have warned us, as the team aroundcaptain Steven Stamkos hit us hard. I get two penalty minutes and the match ends with a 3:4defeat. Back in Ottawa, we meet the Vegas Golden Knights next. We are unable to win thisgame even though we have home advantage. But the game doesn’t leave a bitter aftertaste, since even with an interim 1:5 deficit, our fighting spirit is unbroken. Shortly before thesecond break, I score the goal to 3:5, then finally, the goal to 4:5 in the 43rd minute. The defeats just won’t stop, neither during the game against the Flyers on November 5, norduring the game against Vancouver three days later. But despite the defeats, there arebright spots: ex-Flyers legend…   Read More

Ice skating with and without a hockey puck – that' s the first thing Tim learns at skating school under the supervision of coach Peter Kaczmarek. Ten ice-skating sessions later, Tim is called up for the Bambini Team B of Krefelder EV. After only three months, Kaczmarek calls young Tim to the A-team, but he is not quite ready yet: his priority is to stick with his friends who play for the B-Team. Not a bad decision, because just one season later his boys are also ready to move up together.

A decade on ice for Krefeld. From "Bambini-A" to "Student-A", Tim plays for all teams of Krefelder EV during these years. Double the training and double the play pay off twice. In 2012, Tim is named best forward at both the tournament in Augsburg and in Berlin.

After becoming "German Boys' Champion" in Düsseldorf 2016, he is supposed to make his DNL debut under Elmar Schmitz as early as in the 2016/2017 season. Unfortunately, it is not yet time for that. The DEB refuses Tim permission to play. But there is a tradeoff solution at that time: Tim will continue to play with the students but will already train in the DNL.

Finally, compromises come to an end. In April, Tim moves to Mannheim and joins the "Jungadlern" under Frank Fischöder and is immediately accepted into the DNL team. Right after his DNL start, he can bag two championship titles in a row. Unforgettable: in the 2017/2018 season, it was Tim's goal during overtime that won the "Jungadler Mannheim" the German championship.

At the end of March, the U18 World Cup takes place in Grenoble, France, and Tim and his team make it to the top division. He finishes the U18 World Cup as best striker and as best assist provider and qualifies for playing in the U20 World Cup the following year.

Things are getting serious: Tim signs his first professional contract with "Adler Mannheim" under Pavel Gros. On January 15, 2020, he comes of age and the entire Adler team throws a big surprise party to celebrate his birthday.

The late year provides even more memorable moments. A few weeks before the beginning of the November lockdown, Tim is eagerly anticipating the NHL draft together with his teammates and family. Being drafted third overall, the Mannheim sensation becomes perfect. Tim will move to Canada to join the Ottawa Senators, who were quick to secure him for their team. In fact, no German player in NHL history was ever drafted earlier. Now that' s a reason to celebrate! The party in Mannheim continued into the morning hours.

All roads lead to Canada. In December 2020, Tim has to say goodbye to Mannheim for the time being. As captain, he will lead the German U20 national team to the World Championship in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Tim's team reaches the quarterfinals and is awarded best forward of the World Championship and chosen to the World Championship All-Star-Team.

However, Tim doesn't have much time to enjoy his success, as the Senators are already waiting for him in Ottawa, Canada's capital. A plane takes him some 1,800 miles east and directly to the contract signing with his new team.

Now if that isn't a wonderful birthday present. On January 15, 2021 – Tim's 19th birthday – he makes his NHL debut and just one day later scores his first NHL goal in his second game. The winning streak continues in February, when Tim scores ten points in 14 games and is named Rookie of the Month.

In his second NHL season – the first he plays all the way from beginning to end – Tim continues to improve his skills and by the end of the season he is the second highest scorer on the Senators team with 58 points. Although his team misses reaching the finals again, this season is still a great success for Tim. One more dream of his ice hockey career has to be fulfilled before the well-deserved summer break: Tim's first appearance in a World Championship as a member of the German men's national team in Helsinki. After three games and two perfect goal assists, he unfortunately has to end the World Championship early. A knee injury suffered during the preliminary games forces him to take this decision.
